Nativitas Praecelsae.
Vespers of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
(2009)

In order to evoke even greater respect for the Eucharist, it is very important to revive and
enhance the celebration of Vespers in Catholic churches not only during the major Catholic
feast days, but also to conduct them every Sunday in all churches. In order to revive and spread
the tradition of Vespers, Schola Cantorum Vilnensis in this CD presents one of the main feasts
of Virgin Mary in Lithuania – the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Feast of
Šilinė. This CD contains two versions of chant: the Latin version, which was sung in Lithuania
in the beginning of the 17th c. (during the period of Virgin Mary’s revelation in Šiluva), and the
Lithuanian version, which is now being used by communities which prefer to pray in vernacular
language.
